L'occasione fa il ladro in Teatro alla Scala 2010

Gioachino Rossini - L'occasione fa il ladro
Academy Project
Sung in Italian with electronic libretto in Italian, English
Running Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

If the Barber was written in three weeks, the twenty-year old Rossini took just eleven days to get to grips with this unruly farsa in a single act. Based on a case of exchange of identities, the plot sees a double swap of two people that are betrothed following a mistaken exchange of suitcases. All things that might well have happened back in the days when passports did not have photographs. An intriguing mix-up amongst couples with a happy ending.

In the dark and stormy night when the story gets underway, all Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s staging emerges from a suitcase. Rossini’s fast pace unleashes the budding virtues of the young musicians of the Teatro alla Scala Academy. L'occasione fa il ladro is conducted by Daniele Rustioni, another young talent who impressed greatly during his first trial runs.
