Burton Agnes Jazz & Blues Festival 2010

With 26 bands over three days, and performances in the Elizabethan Hall and its beautiful grounds, you can experience the diverse range of laid-back entertainment that inspired the Independent to write that the Festival was ‘Possibly the most enjoyable jazz concert I've ever attended’.
This year we look forward to fabulous perfomances from award winning musicians Clare Teal, Dennis Rollins, Omar Puente, Anita Wardell and many more. For full details of performers please see the program.

Main Stage

 

Friday Evening

6:30 - 8:00 5 Pieces of Silver - Hot quintet dedicated to the 1960's Blue Note era of the great Horace Silver led by the Brazilian born pianist Zezo Olimpio.
8:15 - 10:00 Bass Man Family- The twelve strong collective fuse elements of jazz, soul, RnB, funk & pop.

10.10- 10.40 Holly Taymar- Her widely praised musical style veers between jazz with a bit of folk and folk with a bit of jazz- highly original and captivating.
10.50-11.20 Bandiqui- Bandiqui blend hypnotic, heartfelt & eclectic songwriting along with cover versions of much loved modern day songs.
11.30-12.00 Alligators- A trio performing no holds barred rhythm and blues in the classic style.

Saturday

1.00 - 2:30 Zezo Olimpio Trio- Zezo will be presenting classics of Brazilian music and Bossa-Novas alongside some of his own compositions and arrangements- with his vintage Fender-Rhodes piano for just the right sound!
2.45- 4:15 Anita Wardell- A mesmerizing and captivating vocal improvisation. A musician who uses the voice as her instrument, displaying precision and agility, mixed with heartfelt emotion.
4:30 - 6:00 Little Axe (Skip McDonald) Prepare yourself for a “miasmic swirl of sound' - The Independent
6:15 - 8:15 Al Wood Big Band with guest vocals from Saffron Byass- UK-based band led and formed by one of the most multi skilled musicians – Al Wood.
8:30 - 10:00 Dennis Rollins- “The rarest of jazz beasts: a genuine star.” The Independent on Sunday Dennis’ trademark funk 'n' groove is admired on both the British and international jazz scene.

10.10-10.40 Miles Cain- A musician, writer and storyteller, Miles is a regular to the festival scene.
10.50-11.20 Two- Helen Turner and Sharon Winfield- Yorkshire's Indigo Girls play, sing and write their own songs. Influences include Carole King and Sarah MacLachlan.

Sunday

12:00 - 1:30 Rob Law Trio- Lead by Rob an accomplished piano player who has earned himself a reputation as one of the country’s most exciting young artists.
1:45 - 3:15 Clare Teal- A sparkling arrangement and glorious mix of old classics and fabulous originals.

3:30 - 4:45 Omar Puente & Robert Mitchell - A totally original-sounding multinational , multicoloured and multirhythmic group.
5:00 - 6:00 Safari with guest Simon Cunliffe-Lister - Organisers Saffron and Simon play out their festival

Saturday

12:00pm - 1:30pm Ben Beattie & The Jazz Age - Classic jazz ballads with energetic feel-good music to make this a highly entertaining band.
2:00pm - 3:30pm The Burton Agnes Jazz Players featuring RevRay, Jenny Bray and local talent - Local Jazz educators and performers Ray Eveleigh and daughter Jenny Bray perform with students and friends from their East Yorkshire Jazz Courses, and Jazz Evenings.
